A Message from the State President

A New Year of Service,
Retention, and Fellowship

Mike Stewart

NYSMA State President

Brothers and Sisters,

As your new State President, I would like to thank you for this opportunity and challenge. I have been a member of the Moose for more than 40 years and have served in all of the chairs, some of them multiple times. Throughout my Moose career, I have enjoyed meeting members from across the fraternity and especially value the time I have spent with so many of you.

A Special Year with the Mooseheart Girls

This past year, I was very busy working to bring the Mooseheart girls to New York for a visit and an opportunity to experience and learn about New York State.

It took a long time and a great deal of fundraising to make this happen, but the time we spent with them meant so much to me. Traveling with them, sharing laughs, and getting to know them brightened my days. They were extremely respectful, appreciative, and thankful for everything that was done for them.

Getting Out and Visiting Our Lodges

I have always enjoyed attending meetings and causing a little good-natured trouble along the way. It is all in fun, and sometimes having a little fun is exactly what helps bring members to meetings and keeps them involved.

During the coming year, I plan to attend every District meeting and visit Lodges that I have never before had the pleasure of seeing. I look forward to meeting more of our members and seeing firsthand the work being done throughout New York State.

Membership and Retention

One of my priorities this year is helping all of our Lodges work on retention. We need to retain our members and make sure they feel welcome in our Lodges.

I would like every member to help with retention. It is a challenge, but I know we can do it. Contact your Council of Higher Degrees and ask them to help your Lodge achieve its goals.

At the same time, we must continue signing up new members and welcoming them into our fraternity. Most importantly, encourage them to become active members of their Lodge.

Looking Ahead

Our goal is to bring the Mooseheart kids back to New York in five years, and the candy sales to help make that possible have already begun.

Do not be afraid to ask your membership for a helping hand. We have many members who are willing to help when they are simply asked to become involved.

Take Advantage of Available Grants

Make sure your Lodge takes advantage of the grants available from Mooseheart. These programs can provide valuable assistance in improving the appearance of your Lodge and making it a place that members are proud to call their own.

Let’s have a great year, have some fun, and work together to make our Lodges stronger.

Fraternally Yours,

Mike Stewart

NYSMA State President
